Metanoia

(n.) - the process of change of one's thought, mind, heart.

The word metanoia comes from the greek root meaning "beyond (meta)-thought (nous)". This series is a homage to that conversion. The mushroom standing in as both a symbol and manifest reality of the actual location that exists between life and death, beginning and end. Mushrooms on an ecological level act as life's great transformers. They break down the energy trapped inside debris, energy that would otherwise be wasted, in order to render new life. Our lives are composed of moments of  "mushrooms". A constant demand to change, surrender, and let go of the former containers. A letting go to become open to the new. Cataloguing the variation of form and shapes of this incredibly diverse phylum is more than just an act of aestheticism. It is a meditation of acknowledgement, a contemplation of the variety of life experience.
